The President of the Republic of Lithuania congratulates the King of Sweden on National Day

President Dalia Grybauskaitė extended congratulations to King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden on National Day.

"This year is also important in the context of historical relations between Lithuania and Sweden. This October will mark 450 years since Catherine, the youngest sister of Grand Duke of Lithuania and King of Poland Sigismund Augustus, was married to John III Vasa, brother of the Swedish King and Duke of Finland, in Vilnius Cathedral Basilica. As we celebrate this beautiful and important for Lithuanian-Swedish relations event, I believe that it will inspire us not only to strengthen the bonds that give meaning to the history that our countries share, but will also promote dialogue on the issues important for our cooperation today and in the future," the President wrote in her message of congratulations.

The Lithuanian leader took the opportunity to kindly invite the King of Sweden to come on a visit to Lithuania.

The President offered her best wishes for the joy and happiness of the Royal Family and for the prosperity and well-being of Sweden.
