The EU's energy policy and the Lithuanian EU Presidency discussed in Sweden

On October 29, 2013, Lithuanian Embassy in Sweden organized the meeting for the representatives of the EU member states and candidate states with State Secretary for the Swedish Minister of Energy Daniel Johansson. Discussion included topics about the EU and the Swedish energy policy as well as the reflection of energy issues during Lithuanian EU Presidency. At the beginning of the meeting Lithuanian Ambassador Eitvydas Bajarūnas presented the priorities of Lithuanian EU Presidency and upcoming events in the energy field. Ambassador named creation of an integrated energy market by eliminating “energy islands” and the strengthening of the EU external energy policy, which would be based on the speaking with one voice and solidarity principles, as the main priorities of Lithuania. Secretary of State D. Johansson presented the most relevant topics in the European energy agenda and informed about the priorities of Swedish energy policy. He emphasized the importance of renewable energy development and energy efficiency. D.Johansson noted that the EU energy market will not be created without adequate interconnections. In that case he emphasized smooth implementation of the NordBalt project, which will connect Sweden and Lithuania by the year 2015.

This meeting was followed by an internal discussion  among EU member states and candidate states on Swedish European agenda. The keynote speaker on the subject was the Head of EC Representation in Sweden Pierre Schellekens.

This week Lithuanian Ambassador Eitvydas Bajarūnas will present the priorities and results of Lithuanian EU Presidency for the members of international non-governmental organization “I-Klubben”
