Prime Minister of Lithuania Saulius Skvernelis: Lithuania fosters close cooperation with Sweden as one of the most important partners

Saulius Skvernelis, Prime Minister of Lithuania, on 6 March visited Stockholm to meet with the Prime Minister of Sweden Stefan Löfven, the Chairman of the Defence Commission and Co-Chair of the Parliamentary Baltic group Björn von Sydow and the members of the Riksdags Defence Committee.

S. Skvernelis expressed satisfaction with the good economic relations and growing trade between the countries. “Sweden is the largest investor for Lithuania. I hope that investment will increase in the future. The main thing is that economic growth has to be felt to each citizen, not only to the state”, said Skvernelis.

The Prime Minister of Sweden Stefan Löfven stressed that Sweden strongly supports the aspiration of Lithuania to become a member of the Organization for European Economic Cooperation in 2018. The perspectives of project “Rail Baltica” and the security issues of  Belarusian nuclear power plant , which is being constructed close to the Lithuanian-Belarus border were discussed at the meeting as well.

S. Skvernelis and the Chairman of the Defence Commission and Co-Chair of the Parliamentary Baltic group Björn von Sydow and the members of the Riksdags Defence Committee focused on security situation in the region.

A working lunch with the representatives of the Swedish and Lithuanian business communities as well as a meeting with the representatives of the Lithuanian community in Sweden was on agenda of the visit. Particular attention was paid to the issues of Lithuanian language teaching, dual citizenship issues.
