Official event on occasion of Lithuanian EU Presidency in Stockholm
On September 27, 2013, official event on the occassion of Lithuanian EU Presidency took place in the Concert Hall of Musikaliska. More than 300 people gathered to listen to internationally acknowledged Lithuania‘s musicians - pianist Lukas Geniušas and Čiurlionis Quartet - who performed music written by Lithuania's one of the most known composer Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis and worldwide very well known composers Frederic Chopin and Robert Schumann. Lithuanian Ambassador in Sweden Eitvydas Bajarūnas and Speaker of Riksdag Per Westerberg started the concert by welcoming the guests. In his speech E.Bajarūnas noted that EU Presidency is a huge task, but at the same time the excellent opportunity to promote our country. Ambassador has streesed the importance of Swedish support during the first years of Lithuanian independence. Eitvydas Bajarūnas presented the priorities of Lithuanian EU Presidency. Speaker of Riksdag P.Wstenberg welcomed Lithuania to assume the duties of the EU Presidency for the first time. He stressed that Sweden was the first foreign country established the Embassy in Vilnius in 1991. P.Westerberg noted that Sweden fully supports Lithuanian EU Presidency priorities, especially as regards Eastern Partnership.
In conjunction with the EU Presidency Embassy of Lithuania in Sweden has organized thematic seminars on energy and Eastern Partnership, Presidency priorities were presented in the different regions of Sweden as well as during the meetings with representatives of several Swedish NGO's. Seminar on the EU Strategy for Baltic Sea Region is scheduled for November. Official closing event of Lithuanian EU Presidency will take place on December 2 with performance of famous Lithuanian singer Neda and jazz band in Sodra Teatern.
