Lithuania’s Ambassador of Lithuania presented Lithuanian EU presidency priorities in Södertörn University.

On April 24, 2013, Lithuania’s Ambassador in Sweden Eitvydas Bajarunas visited Södertörn University, where he presented Lithuania’s EU presidency priorities to lecturers and students of the Baltic and East European Studies Center. Also, the cooperation issues with Lithuanian universities were discussed. E. Bajarunas noted that economic growth, unemployment, and financial stability will be the main priorities of Lithuania’s EU presidency. The fundamental national priorities are the Eastern Partnership, the EU Baltic Sea Region Strategy and the energy security. The Ambassador stressed that during Lithuania’s EU presidency the support from Sweden and the other Nordic countries is expected as these priorities match to a large extent.

 

The following discussion has been accompanied by the professor of Political Science Karl Magnus Johansson and Stockholm University Professor Kristina Boreas who temporary resides at the University of Södertörn.


Södertörn University, which is located in the south from Stockholm, has the largest Program of Eastern Baltic European Studies in Sweden. The University is in active cooperation with Lithuanian universities. Moreover, the Center of Baltic and East European Studies publishes a quarterly magazine dedicated to the Baltic region called “Baltic Worlds”.
