Lithuanian poet Donelaitis — the Homer of Lithuania

Kristijonas Donelaitis (1714-1780) was a Prussian Lithuanian Luthern pastor and poet. He wrote the first classic Lithuanian language poem, The Seasons, which became one of the principal works of Lithuanian poetry.
This year Lithuania is celebrating the 300-year anniversary of the birth of Kristijonas Donelaitis - a giant of Lithuanian literature. His epic poem The Seasons (in Lithuanian: Metai) is a canonic masterpiece of early Lithuanian literature. The poem depicts everyday life of the peasants, their struggle with serfdom and rebellion against the mistreatment at the hand of German colonizers, and the annual cycle of life.
The seminar will be opened by HE Ambassador of Lithuania Eitvydas Bajarūnas and followed by a festive opening of the Donelaitis Exhibition at the entrance to Stockholm University Library.
