Lithuanian Ambassador participated in the inauguration of new direct flights between Lithuania and Sweden

During the event which took place on the 10th of June 2014 in Malmö, the Lithuanian Ambassador to Sweden Eitvydas Bajarūnas inaugurated the new flight between Malmö and Vilnius.

Representatives of the Lithuanian airline company Air Lithuanica, state-owned company SWEDAVIA operating the Swedish airports and the Lithuanian State Department of Tourism in Sweden as well as the Lithuanian Honorary Consul in Malmö Ingmar Ingstad also took part in the event together with the Ambassador E. Bajarūnas. They summarized the political, economic and human relations between Lithuania and Sweden to the local journalists and representatives of travel agencies, and presented the tourism opportunities and tourist routes in Lithuania together with tourism news.

E.Bajarūnas, who was giving a welcome speech at the seminar, was happy with Air Lithuanica’s decision to open new direct flights from Vilnius to Malmö and Gothenburg. According to the Ambassador, improved means of communication will help increase the notoriety of Lithuania, provide new opportunities for tourists to get to know our country better as well as better opportunities for the Lithuanians working in Sweden to travel home more conveniently, and also increase the chances of business companies to tighten their relations with business partners.

A parallel event will take place in another Swedish city Gothenburg on the 11th of June.

Air Lithuanica will start operating flights to Gothenburg on the 15th and to Malmö on the 17th of June. Flights to both cities will be operating twice a week. Alongside these routes, the Scandinavian company SAS and Norwegian company Norwegian Air are operating flights between Stockholm and Vilnius right now.

According to the official statistics, the number of tourists traveling from Sweden to Lithuania has increased by almost 10% and consisted of more than 50 thousand in 2013.
