LITHUANIA PRESENTED AT THE BALTIC SEA MUSIC FESTIVAL

On Friday, 31st of August, at the Baltic Sea Music Festival in Stockholm the St. Christopher chamber orchestra concert, conducted by Professor Donatas Katkus, was held along with an opening of the exhibition of the "Baltic Way 20th anniversary".


During the Baltic Sea Music Festival on August 29th - September 4th, 2009, Lithuania is taking part as an exclusive guest. The Baltic Sea Music Festival, this year dedicated to peace and reconciliation, presents the classical music at its best in the event that is held in one of the most important Swedish cultural spaces, Berwaldhallen concert hall, where, besides the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, concerts are given by the world's foremost musicians. As this year we are celebrating the millennium of Lithuania’s name and since Vilnius is the European Capital of Culture, the Lithuanian Embassy in Stockholm took the initiative to invite a team from Lithuania.


On the 31st of August a performance by Vilnius city municipality St. Christopher chamber orchestra took place in Stockholm's Berwaldhallen concert hall. Together with this versatile and professional orchestra one of the finest violinists of Denmark - Mikkel Futrrup was invited to play.


The same evening the Ambassador of Lithuania opened the exhibition dedicated to the "Baltic Way" 20th anniversary, which displayed the most important moments in the steps of the Baltic independence in 1989. Lithuanian Minister of Culture Remigijus Vilkaitis, while on a working visit to Stockholm, also visited the exhibition.
