Honorary Consulate Opened in Umeå
6-7 February 2013 Lithuanian Ambassador to Sweden Eitvydas Bajarūnas visited Umeå in the north of Sweden where he opened a new Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Lithuania and met with the representatives of Västerbotten county administration to discuss the issues of regional cooperation. Cultural attaché Saulė Mažeikaitė has joined the Ambassador during his visit to discuss the possibilities of representing Lithuanian culture during the events of Umeå 2014 European Capital of Culture. During his visit Ambassador formally opened the Honorary Consulate; new Honorary Consul of the Republic of Lithuania in Umeå Anna Helena Eliasson Järnö has been appointed in October 2012.
Ambassador also met with the Governor of Västerbotten Magdalena Andersson and the representatives of the municipal and the county governments to discuss the possibilities of future cooperation in the areas of energy, sustainable development, forestry and tourism.
The Ambassador also visited the Chamber of Commerce of Umeå to present the business environment and investment possibilities to the representatives of the local business community.
Mr. Eitvydas Bajarūnas also gave a lecture to the students of the University of Umeå concerning the priorities of the upcoming Lithuanian Presidency of the EU Council.
