Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania to the Kingdom of Sweden promoted tourism and regional communication in Gothenburg
Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania to the Kingdom of Sweden Eitvydas Bajarūnas and representatives of Stockholm’s Commercial Attaché office on the 22nd of March visited Gothenburg, the second biggest city of Sweden. There they attended the Swedish International Travel and Tourism Trade Fair – TUR, which is taking place in Gothenburg on the 21-25 of March. At the fair representatives of Embassy looked over a joint mount of Tourism Information Centers of Klaipėda and Palanga, and met delegates of Western Swedish Chamber of Commerce.
TUR 2012 is the biggest tourism exhibition in Northern Europe. It has gathered 700 exhibitors representing 600 companies from 78 countries. Fair net floor area is 10 000 m2.
At TUR 2012 Embassy of Lithuania, Lithuanian Honorary Consul in Sweden Birgitta Jacobsson Ekblom, Klaipėda and Palanga Tourism Information Centers held a reception, where more than 30 Swedish journalists, travel agents, representatives of city authorities and cultural events organizers participated. Guests of the reception exchanged information on the potential and perspective cooperation in promoting bilateral relations between Lithuania and Sweden.
During his visit to Gothenburg Ambassador E. Bajarūnas and Honorary Consul in Sweden for Lithuania B. Jacobsson Ekblom met with President of City Council of Gothenburg Rolf Lindén and Governor of Gothenburg district Lars Bäckström. Ambassador introduced the Lithuanian attitude towards collaboration of Northern and Baltic States, presented business and political ties of two countries and also Lithuania’s presidency of EU Council. There were discussed the opportunities of developing tourism, business and science between Gothenburg and Lithuania’s districts. Gothenburg is ready to share experience in establishing science and technology valleys, innovative waste treatment and environmental technologies with Lithuania.
