On the 9th of June 2012 Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania to the Kingdom of Sweden Eitvydas Bajarūnas visited Karlskrona - the centre of Blekinge County, where he attended the opening of international exhibition and discussed regional communication. Ambassador E. Bajarūnas together with Governor of Blekinge County Berit Andnor Bylund, director of museum Tullan Guner and other officials opened an exposition “Telling the Baltic” at the Brekinge County Museum in Karlsrona.

“Telling the Baltic” is a joint art projects which was started several years ago. In the project artists from deferent Baltic countries are presenting their works. The aim of the project is to strengthen collaboration between art institutions in countries around the Baltic Sea. Artists participating in the project were inspired by stories about the Baltic Sea which were told by fishermen, sailors and islanders. Art works by Polish, Swedish, Danish, Russian, German and Lithuanian artists were displayed at the exhibition.

Artists from Lithuania Irma Stanaitytė, Jurgita Remeikytė, Laura Stasiulytė, Dainius Dapkevičius and Gintaras Makarevičius were participating in this project which was funded by the EU and private means.

In his speech Ambassador E. Bajarūnas prompted official representatives of Blekinge and the artists to develop human and cultural communication. This idea is in line with the priorities of the Nordic - Baltic Countries and one of the most important goals of the upcoming Lithuanian EU Presidency – implementation of the EU Baltic Sea Regional Programme.

Furthermore, Ambassador had an opportunity to discuss regional communication between Blekinge County and Lithuania with the Governor of Blekinge County Berit Andnor Bylund and other officials of Karlskrona. Karlskrona and Klaipėda have been communicating for many years already, but regional cooperation may still be enhanced.

Karlskrona is an important port of southeast Sweden which has a profound history and is registered as UNESCO heritage. The town is famous for its shipyards. The Navy Forces of Sweden is concentrated in Karlskrona. One of ABB factories situated in Karlskrona is starting to produce electricity cable which will constitute the main part of NordBalt link.
