Ambassador of Lithuania promoted regional relations and discussed energy projects
On 15 June 2012 Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania to the Kingdom of Sweden Eitvydas Bajarunas together with the assistant to the Commercial attache Skirmate Venaliene visited Västerås – a city in the west of Sweden – where they discussed regional relations and energy projects.Honorary Consul of Lithuania Birgitta Lindh Johansson has organized a working meeting where Ambassador presented main aspects of bilateral Lithuanian – Swedish relations, introduced the participants to the latest developments in Lithuanian politics and economy, particularly emphasizing the priorities of the upcoming Lithuanian Presidency of the EU.
Deputy Governor of the Västmanland region Sofia Wallström, President of the City Council Britt Sandström, Chairman of the regional Lithuanian –Swedish society Per Johansson and its members as well as representatives of the local Lithuanian community participated at the event.
Ambassador has taken the opportunity to discuss regional cooperation and potential future projects with the officials of the local government of Västmanland region and the city of Västerås.
Västerås is one of the centers of the Swedish industry, where such companies as ABB, Westinhouse, Bombardier and other engineering and energy enterprises are established.
While in Västerås ambassador Eitvydas Bajarunas visited the headquarters of ABB in Sweden and Northern Europe. ABB has been selected to implement one of the most important Lithuanian energy projects – electricity link NordBalt. During this visit Lithuanian representatives had an opportunity to discuss the progress of the project as well as to hear out the company‘s future plans in Lithuania.
