Ambassador Eitvydas Bajarūnas presented Lithuanian priorities in the field of energy and transport infrastructure
Ambassador of Lithuania Eitvydas Bajarūnas participated in the discussion about the EU "Connecting Europe Facility" (CEF) instrument and presented Lithuanian priorities in the field of energy and transport infrastructure. Round table discussion was organized by Swedish member of the EU Parliament Kent Johansson. Ambassador of Latvia, representatives formthe Finnish Embassy, Swedish Transport Administration and different regions of Sweden took part in the discussion as well. E. Bajarūnas in his presentation emphasized that the EU financial support should focus on those projects, which are not commercially atractive, but highly contribute towards increasing of energy security and creation of viable European internal market. Ambassador presented the main energy and transport infrastructure projects and stressed that integration of Lithuanian energy and infrastructure systems into the European network is the main priority in Lithuania.
During discussion all sides agreed that there is a need for better and more effective coordination among the neighboring countries in order to ensure the EU financial support for the projects of common interest. The representatives form the southern regions of Sweden admitted that there is a need for larger investments into the infrastructure of internal roads and railway systems among the main ports of the southern Sweden which increasingly cooperates with the Lithuanian port of Klaipėda. Furthermore, it has been noted that transport flows on East-West direction are growing steadily.
